On Wearing
I wore the dress all day yesterday. The side of the dress is coated in a pattern of thermo-sensitive “mood” squares that sit tight against my skin. It is supposed to show changes in body temperature according to a color scale that begins with coldest (black) and ends on hottt (dark blue). I experimented with different engagements throughout the day as well as different environments. I had meetings with friends and professors, attended school and an art opening, and wore the dress with and without a burka.
Some key things that I’ve noted:
1. My body temperature will increase as I get more and more comfortable with the other person in the conversation.
2. If approached while sitting and doing something like reading, the interaction tends to (regardless of whether it is boring or not) turn the dress more blue.
3. If the conversation topic turns from something like money (not so interested) to cement or rural development (pretty interested), then my body temperature rose.
4. The only time that the entire dress was blue was when I was nearby someone I am attracted to. I didn’t tell him what that meant.
